Here’s an update with the pregnancy stuff~
I am officially pregnant about 4 ½ weeks and I’ve started on the Lovenox injections which actually hasn’t been too bad. I’m also taking extra folic acid, vitamins B6 & B12 which I haven’t done during my last pregnancies.
My OBGYN called yesterday and informed me that my HCG level is good, but apparently my progesterone level is a little low. It’s currently at 12.9 and should be at 15 for where I’m at in the pregnancy. My OBGYN is concerned since I’m already taking progesterone suppositories (to help increase my levels) and I’m still low. She told me to take extra amounts of progesterone and to see her on Monday, 1/7/08. As I’ve been researching on the web there’s all kinds of theories regarding low progesterone in pregnancies. Some say, you can use progesterone suppositories and your levels will increase after a few days to eventually delivering a baby. Then there are other articles that say having low progesterone is your body’s way of not having a viable pregnancy. As I start to think about all of this I get overwhelmed, scared, and saddened that once again I’ll have another miscarriage. The thought of having another miscarriage makes me sad and pissed off… no matter how hard we try I may never be able to carry a child. Before I start going down this road…. I am and need to actively pray to God that somehow a miracle will happen instead of the inevitable miscarriage.

the progesterone stuff can be really confusing, but here is what i know from my own experiences:
–low progesterone indicating a non-viable pregnancy is not necessarily the same as low progesterone based on other things (like luteal phase defect). if the pregnancy isn’t viable then progesterone won’t save it. but if it *is* viable but you have a chemical/hormonal imbalance, then supplementing can definitely help.
i have always taken prometrium orally (well, since my first three miscarriages), and my progesterone levels have always been fine. my obs (i’ve had several) have all preferred the oral prometrium to the suppositories. and for me, they’ve worked.
best of luck with your pregnancy –here’s hoping that you have a bouncing september baby.
