I had a miscarriage in January, I lost a set of twins in May, and now another. I found out this week that I have tested positive for "Heterozygous MTHFR C677T". I saw a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic yesterday who didn't seem to believe that this mutation is what's causing the problem...I am devastated because all of my research proves otherwise. My regualr OB is on vacation for another week and a half, so I can't even get her opinion on the whole thing and it's driving me crazy! I know how difficult it is to loose your baby. I am glad to hear you are stubborn and did some research especially now knowing you have this mutation. After my third miscarriage, I was determined that if we were going to try once again then I wanted to know why these miscarriages kept reoccurring instead of hearing that some peoples bodies wont let them carry a baby. After a few chromosomal tests were performed on both Eric and I they found out that I had the MFTHR Mutation (both strands). My OB said that if and when I got pregnant again to start taking Lovenox since this could potentially help me not to miscarry once again. My fertility doctor did not want me to start taking the Lovenox injections. He said this study was too controversial and there was no scientific evidence to show this would actually help me not to miscarry. I was torn as well whether to start injections once I would get pregnant. I did a lot research about this type of mutation and it seems that quite a few people have taken lovenox along with extra folic acid, and vitamins B6 & B12. In December, I got pregnant and had decided that I was going to take my chance by doing the injections. If I end up having a miscarriage then at least I tried these different options then to wonder ‘what if’ If I hadn’t tried. To date, I'm 33wks and still going. I've actually had my doses increased twice and have been now taking them twice a day, but so far my levels are good. Regarding the fertility issue, it has taken us 5 years to get pregnant (with the assistance of fertility medications). My "issue" is that I not only have PCOS, but I'm not able to produce follicles on my own so I needed to get some assistance via Repronex injections to help stimulate follicles. I'm not sure if this mutation could be another factor of why I had such a difficult time getting pregnant but it certain had a factor of trying to stay pregnant. I'm sure if any of this information helps you but I would encourage you to do some more research and ask a lot of questions because in the end you will need to feel confident with the decision you make in whether to take Lovenox or not to.
